What are European citizens saying about the #EUelections2024? How will their decisions shape the next five years?

We're aware that 2024 is the year of elections, and across Europe, there will be a mass voting action to determine the course of the next five years for our future. Just before the elections, the Eurobarometer has provided crucial statistics.

“A large and stable majority of Europeans (72%) think that their country has benefited from EU membership.”  

This sentiment underscores the significance of participating in the EU elections, as the outcomes will shape the trajectory of each European nation. The decisions made by the EU institutions, particularly in Brussels, resonate throughout every corner of Europe.

Recent events, such as the widespread farmer protests witnessed across major cities in Europe last month, serve as poignant reminders of this interconnectedness. According to the Eurobarometer EP Autumn 2023 Survey, a significant 70% of EU citizens acknowledge the tangible impact of EU actions on their daily lives. Therefore, it's evident that voting in the EU elections is not merely an exercise in civic duty but a crucial determinant of the future direction and well-being of European nations.

"Exactly half of respondents (50%) say they feel well informed about their rights as a citizen of the EU, while a third (33%) say they do not feel very well informed and 16% do not feel at all informed."

Even if half of the respondents say they feel well-informed, the other half still represents a significant majority worth considering. One crucial aspect that requires attention is informing individuals about their rights concerning democratic engagement. Democracy stands as a cornerstone value of the EU, granting people the fundamental right to shape their future.

“About one in two EU citizens (51%) select ‘voters having Access to accurate information to make an informed choice’ as one of the most important elements of free and fair elections, followed by 47% selecting ‘electoral administration being independent and impartial’.”
